The Role:

We are currently seeking a part-time Forensic Psychiatrist to join our team. As a Forensic Psychiatrist, you will be responsible for providing comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, and treatment in a hospital and outpatient setting, as well as working with the wider community, the Court, and Corrections.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert psychiatric assessments and diagnoses to individuals involved in the justice system
  • Develop and implement treatment plans to address the mental health needs of these individuals
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including healthcare professionals, social workers, and lawyers, to ensure effective communication and coordination of care
  • Work closely with the Courts and Corrections to provide expert opinions and testimony
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to the development of policies and procedures

Requirements:

  • Eligibility for registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand
  • Degree in medicine and completion of psychiatric training
  • Experience in forensic psychiatry or a related field
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
