Role Overview

The Waikato Regional Council is seeking two Junior Rural Compliance Officers to join its team. As a key member of the Regional Compliance Section, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that dairy farm effluent management, production forestry harvesting operations, and other rural-based activities comply with relevant regulations.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about environmental conservation and has excellent communication and interpersonal skills. You will work closely with the Incident Response, Maritime Safety, and Investigations teams to achieve positive outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and enforce compliance with regulations related to freshwater management and resource consents issued for rurally based activities.
  • Conduct site visits and inspections to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements.
  • Accurately record and report information, and apply best practices in compliance monitoring.
  • Build positive relationships with stakeholders, including farmers, foresters, and community members.
  • Work collaboratively with other teams to achieve shared goals and objectives.

Requirements

  • A tertiary qualification in Environmental Science, Forestry Science, Operations, Agriculture, or Resource Management.
  • Relevant experience in a primary industry or law enforcement field.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to build positive relationships and work with diverse stakeholders.
  • Good organizational skills, including time management, prioritization, and forward planning.
