Job Description

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Medical Laboratory Scientist to join our team in the Newborn Screening section of the Specialist Chemical Pathology department at Lab Plus. As a key member of our team, you will work closely with the current Scientific Officer to provide technical and clinical support to the NBS section.

Key Responsibilities
- Routine running and troubleshooting of screening assays, including in-house developed expanded screening assays
- Development of new assays, training and mentoring of staff
- Taking a lead role in interpreting and reporting of results
- Liaising with clinical staff and ensuring National Screening Unit (NSU) quality requirements and external accreditation requirements are met

Requirements
- Excellent organisational, computer and communication skills
- Recent demonstrable skills and advanced knowledge of tandem mass spectrometry and other methodologies and instrumentation
- Previous experience in newborn screening would be advantageous
- Ability to train and supervise staff
- Familiarity with the ISO15189 standard
- MSc, Ph D or appropriate higher scientific qualification
- Current annual practicing certificate and registration as a Medical Laboratory Scientist with the Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand
