Child Protection Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Child Protection Specialist to join our Intake and Assessment team at Oranga Tamariki—Ministry for Children.
As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for managing reports of concerns, conducting initial visits to families, interviewing children, and working closely with community stakeholders, iwi, and police. You will also be arranging family hui and working with families to access community supports.
The ideal candidate will have a strong passion for working with children and youth, and will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills. They will also have a commitment to strength-based practice and an understanding of Te Ao Māori and indigenous models of practice.

Key Requirements- A Social Work Qualification with Full Registration and current Annual Practising Certificate with the New Zealand Social Worker Registration Board
- A passion for working with children and youth, connecting, understanding, and building relationships to help provide positive outcomes for them.
- A strong and genuine commitment to strength-based practice
- A preference and understanding of Te Ao Māori and indigenous models of practice
- Strong PC and Microsoft Office Suite skills with strong written and verbal communication skills (you will need to provide professional written and verbal feedback to the courts)
- Demonstrated resilience, problem-solving techniques, and flexibility
- An understanding and awareness of the Oranga Tamariki Act, 1989
- Proven expertise and social work practice in child protection and an understanding of New Zealand Legislation that relates to the safety of children and young people
- A full, clean, current driver's licence
- An ability to work as a team player with resilience in what can be highly stressful situations
