We are a dynamic team at Ara Poutama Aotearoa, Department of Corrections NZ, committed to delivering culturally safe and evidence-based interventions to promote the well-being of individuals in our care.

As a Mental Health Professional - Corrections, you will be working closely with a dedicated multi-disciplinary team, including corrections officers, case managers, programs, and broader health staff.

Your primary objective will be to foster and improve the well-being of individuals in our care by conducting comprehensive assessments and developing long-term plans and interventions.

Culturally safe practices and approaches are essential in this role, acknowledging the intricate and interconnected histories of severe trauma, mental health challenges, substance use, unhealthy relationships, and socio-economic factors that contribute to offending.

A strong understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and effective navigation of a Maori cultural setting is crucial for success in this role.

Experience in utilising trauma-informed practice models and working with at-risk patients is highly desirable.
