Job Description:

We are seeking a skilled Senior Advisor to support governance relationships, provide high-quality advice, and ensure strong engagement with whanau, hapu, Iwi, Maori communities, and key stakeholders.

This role plays a key part in strengthening Maori Crown relationships and advancing Maori health outcomes. You will apply your expertise in Te Tiriti o Waitangi and Maori health to influence meaningful change.

  • Strengthen Maori Crown relationships by supporting engagement with whanau, hapu, Iwi, and key stakeholders.
  • Provide high-quality advice on Maori Crown relations, including Iwi/Maori Accords and relationship agreements.
  • Apply Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles to ensure equity and Treaty obligations are embedded in all work.
  • Support governance and ministerial relationships to align Maori health priorities across the Ministry and health sector.
  • Facilitate effective communication with stakeholders using diverse engagement channels.

Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Tertiary qualification in a health or relevant field and/or equivalent stakeholder, iwi, and Maori community engagement experience.
  • Ability to operate in te ao Maori contexts, including understanding of tikanga, kawa and te reo Maori.
  • Knowledge and experience in Maori Crown relations, Treaty settlement relationships, Maori health or a relevant field.
  • Proven organisational skills with the ability to think ahead, use initiative, establish priorities, and meet deadlines whilst preserving high levels of accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Previous experience in applying critical thinking and using sound judgement to develop options and provide advice.
