About Us

Waikato Hospital is the tertiary provider for intensive care to the Midland region of New Zealand.

The hospital operates a 34-bed footprint and has an annual workload of approximately 1,500 ICU and 3,000 HDU level patients each year.

Covering all major tertiary services including a trauma centre and the second-largest cardiac surgical centre in New Zealand, we also provide neurosurgical and regional burns care in addition to a busy general and paediatric intensive care.

We operate a retrieval service by both air and road for critical care patients.

Job Summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Senior Clinical Lead Intensivist in the Critical Care Department at Waikato Hospital.

The successful candidate will be responsible for participating in clinical leadership of the department and management of its medical staff.

You will assist the Head of Department with this work and may have allocated responsibilities and portfolios.

This role offers a unique opportunity for leadership development towards a joint or full Clinical Head post.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the clinical leadership of the department and management of its medical staff
  • Assist the Head of Department with their duties and responsibilities
  • Have allocated responsibilities and portfolios
  • Work collaboratively with Allied Health, Nursing, Midwifery, and corporate counterparts to deliver accountabilities

Requirements

  • Hold or be eligible for Vocational Registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand in the scope of practice of Intensive Care Medicine, and must be of good standing
  • Fellowship in the Australasian College of Intensive Care Medicine (CICM)
  • Both single and dual-trained specialists are encouraged to apply
  • Those with subspecialty interests including cardiac, paediatric, research, and academia will be supported
