2025 sees the company reach our 20-year milestone in business, something we are immensely proud of.Role OverviewSmart Express is seeking a dedicated and experienced Financial Manager to manage and oversee the financial processes and a small finance team.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing all financial operations, ensuring accuracy in financial reporting, and contributing to our strategic financial planning.You will be a highly motivated individual, with strong computer literacy particularly in Xero and Microsoft tools, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to prioritise and work under pressure.
The successful candidate must bring integrity and a passion for providing exceptional customer service.Key Tasks:Day-to-day work: Team Leadership: Leading the finance team to ensure efficient operation and accurate financial record-keeping.Day-to-day and monthly accounting entries: Working with the team to ensure all daily financial transactions are completed (these include but are not limited to invoicing, payroll, collections, accounts payable, cash application, journal, credit checks etc).Collaboration: Working with the collections person to maximise collections, including managing proactive collections and implementing strategies to encourage timely payments.Reporting: Preparing monthly management reports within 8 days of month end, including graphical and automated summaries, leading and lagging indicators, and any information that would be helpful to drive the business forward.Accounts Management: Releasing AP and Payroll payments from the bank as appropriate.Analysis: Conducting regular financial analysis to identify trends and provide proactive actionable insights.Tax & Compliance: Ensuring compliance with all financial regulations, taxes, and policies.Human Resource Capability: Manage all HR for the company.Leadership: Mentoring, coaching, and guiding the two current finance team members.Collaboration: Collaborating with other departments to align financial strategies with company goals and identifying efficiencies including supplier and asset management.Process improvement: Automate as many processes and systems as possible.Strategy & Planning: Working with the rest of the company's leadership team to support the company's strategy and future direction.Support:Ad hoc work as required.Our Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):This role will be subject to weekly and monthly KPI's, including:Timeliness of management reporting.Accuracy of payroll and transactions.Reduction in outstanding receivables and improvement in collection times.Adherence to financial regulations and policies.Are you the right person to join our team?You must be humble, hungry, and smart.Experience with Xero and ideally a power BI user.Strong level computer skills - Microsoft and Google Suite.Excellent communication skills.Great attention to detail.Confident but not egotistical.Open to change - natural go-getter.Can think on their feet and is a great self-starter.Has a hunger and drive to do things well.Confident and diplomatic enough to have tough conversations.Qualifications Required for This Role:Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.Ideally Chartered Accountant (CA) or Certified Public Accountant (CPA).Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office suite.Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.Ability to work independently and within a team.Your application will include the following questions:Which of the following statements best describes your right to work in New Zealand?How many years' experience do you have as a financial controller?How many years of accounting experience do you have?Have you worked in a role which requires experience with financial analysis and modelling?How many years' experience do you have with forecasting for businesses?How many years of people management experience do you have?Which of the following accounting packages are you experienced with?How many years of payroll experience do you have?
