We're proud to have done this in one form or another for over 100 years - powering Kiwi businesses, communities and homes.About the teamAs part of the Operations Division, the Grid Operations team are responsible for the National Grid Operations Centres (NGOC) in Auckland and Christchurch, performing key activities and service functions such as:Controlling the real-time operation of national grid assets including operation of the HVDC linkManaging asset availability to the System Operator for planned and unplanned outages, in line with the Grid Owner's CODE compliance obligationsManaging unplanned event communications and reporting (customers, Police, Electricity Authority, and other Transpower groups)Monitoring via national SCADA, grid asset status and ensuring they are operated within their rated capabilityControlling core grid and regional equipment independently as and when required for safety and asset health reasonsMaintaining effective relationships both internally and with customers (line companies, generators, and direct connects), and service providersAbout the opportunityWe have a vacancy for an adaptable and conscientious Grid Asset Controller who will work on a roster basis including nights and weekends as part of the collaborative NGOC team.
Transpower typically operates the following 12-hour shift pattern: 2 day then 2 night shifts, alternating 6.00am then 6.00pm starts, with 3.5 days off between the next round of shifts.Based in Auckland, you will be supported and encouraged as you work to complete a circa one-two year training pathway to competency.To be considered, you will demonstrate the ability to progress through learning at pace, and the desire and flexibility to enjoy a shift-based work environment.
Your previous work history will illustrate:Minimum 2 - 3 years of experience delivering high-quality work in a critical, process-supported and decision-orientated environmentIntermediate/Advanced computer literacy and an ability to use specialised software applicationsExcellent written and verbal communications capability and service orientationInnate ability to establish and maintain positive relationships and influence peopleWhile not essential, please let us know if you have any of the following:A tertiary qualification in engineering or relevant scienceA developed understanding of engineering principlesOperation of high voltage equipmentWell-developed understanding of NZ power system operations, codes, grid operation management and power system safety issuesDue to the nature of the role, it's important that you can remain calm and composed when presented with high pressure situations.Join us at TranspowerAotearoa is powered by the people who work here.
