As the trusted advisor to the Commissioner of Police, you will play a key role in identifying, leading and delivering exceptional media and communications support and strategies.
You will have a sound understanding of the media environment and communications to deliver this critical role in supporting Police to prevent crime and enhance community safety.Key Accountabilities:Supports the Commissioner as a trusted advisor in identifying and managing significant media and communications issues and opportunities.Provides media relations leadership and expertise across the Commissioner's media and communications activity.Builds and maintains constructive, trusted relationships with media, key stakeholders and external partners.What you'll bringWhilst we are looking for skills, knowledge and experience relevant to the role, we also place high importance on your state of mind, the alignment of your values with ours, your ability to contribute to and build high performing teams, and the way that you lead yourself or others.To be successful in this role you will have extensive experience providing high-level strategic advice on media and communications, ideally in a large/complex organisation.
Senior-level journalism experience is advantageous.
You will have exceptional communication skills, including the ability to translate complicated information into clear and accessible messaging to support public trust and confidence.You must have the ability to manage high-risk, sensitive and complex issues under pressure, and experience writing speeches, media releases and responses, and opinion editorials.Special requirementsCurrent CPK at the rank of the vacancy you are applying for (Constabulary only).For both Constabulary & Police Employees:Agree to enrol in a leadership programme at the advertised level, at a future date orHave qualified under CEP or a previous Career Progression Framework at the level you are applying for.This role is based in PNHQ in Wellington.
