Aquaculture New Zealand (AQNZ) represents and advocates for New Zealand's aquaculture sector, including mussel, salmon, and oyster farming. It drives economic and strategic growth by engaging with government, Māori, research institutions, and industry stakeholders. AQNZ supports sustainability through policy advocacy, industry standards, research, and public relations while coordinating sector initiatives and managing levy funding to keep New Zealand aquaculture competitive, sustainable, and thriving.

About the Role
AQNZ is seeking a dynamic and strategic CEO to drive the continued growth and success of the aquaculture industry in New Zealand. Reporting to the Board, the CEO will be responsible for leading the organisation, representing the industry at a national and international level, and ensuring its sustainable economic development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Vision: Drive the development and execution of industry-wide strategies, ensuring alignment with the Board's vision and objectives.
  • Team Leadership: Lead and inspire a team of professionals, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Represent New Zealand's aquaculture industry to a variety of national and international stakeholders.
  • Industry Growth & Advocacy: Promote and protect the interests of the aquaculture sector, advocating for policies that enable sustainable growth.
  • Financial & Operational Management: Ensure the effective management of budgets, levies, and funding opportunities while maintaining a balanced and prudent financial position.
  • Industry Standards & Best Practices: Oversee the development, monitoring, and promotion of industry standards, codes of practice, and training programs.
  • Research & Innovation: Drive technical and scientific research initiatives that enhance industry knowledge, sustainability, and global competitiveness.
  • Public Relations & Communications: Lead public relations efforts to enhance industry reputation, foster transparency, and engage the public.
About You
We are looking for an influential and highly motivated leader with:
  • Proven executive leadership experience in a relevant sector, such as primary industries, government relations, or international trade.
  • Empowering and supportive leadership skills, with the ability to build a positive culture and guide the team toward a shared vision.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work across industry groups, government agencies, and Māori organisations.
  • A deep understanding of New Zealand's aquaculture, fisheries, or primary production sectors is highly desirable.
  • Exceptional communication and advocacy skills, including public speaking, media engagement, and negotiation.
  • A track record in financial and organisational management, with experience in funding models, levies, and revenue generation.
  • Experience in policy development, regulatory compliance, and strategic planning.
  • A commitment to sustainability, innovation, and industry best practices.
