Chief Media and Communications Advisor * Based at Police National Headquarters (PNHQ) * Grade 22 * Office of Constable/Police Employee * Permanent – Full Time * NAV * JR 5216438 About the role This is an exciting new opportunity to lead in a dynamic, high-profile and busy operational environment.
As the trusted advisor to the Commissioner of Police, you will play a key role in identifying, leading and delivering exceptional media and communications support and strategies.
You will have a sound understanding of the media environment and communications to deliver this critical role in supporting Police to prevent crime and enhance community safety.
Key Accountabilities: * supports the Commissioner as a trusted advisor in identifying and managing significant media and communications issues and opportunities.
* provides media relations leadership and expertise across the Commissioner's media and communications activity.
* builds and maintains constructive, trusted relationships with media, key stakeholders and external partners.

To be successful in this role you will have extensive experience providing high-level strategic advice on media and communications, ideally in a large/complex organisation.
Senior-level journalism experience is advantageous.
You will have exceptional communication skills, including the ability to translate complicated information into clear and accessible messaging to support public trust and confidence.
You must have the ability to manage high-risk, sensitive and complex issues under pressure, and experience writing speeches, media releases and responses, and opinion editorials.
Special requirements * Current CPK at the rank of the vacancy you are applying for (Constabulary only).
* For both Constabulary & Police Employees: * Agree to enrol in a leadership programme at the advertised level, at a future date or * Have qualified under CEP or a previous Career Progression Framework at the level you are applying for.
This role is based in PNHQ in Wellington.
Some travel may be required.
This role is set at Strategic Leader level, this means your key purpose is "to lead the strategy, Our Business, and enable our people to deliver it".

The minimum criteria for this level of national security clearance is: NZ Citizen who has resided continuously in NZ for the last 10 years, or: * A Permanent Resident who has resided continuously in NZ for the last 10 years, or * A citizen of or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last 10 years: Australia, Canada, United Kingdom, or United States of America, and has a background that can be verified by the NZSIS.
