Success is not the work of one, but the work of many. Te Haeata/The OpportunityWe are looking for three Policy Managers to join our Policy Group. Two of these are permanent positions and one is a fixed term position providing cover for 12 months.
These Policy Managers WillLead a new team in our Courts and Justice Services Policy Unit. The Policy Manager and team will support the delivery of an important and ambitious programme of work to improve court timeliness and people's experience in the justice system.Lead a new team in our Criminal Justice Policy Unit. The Policy Manager and Team will support the development of a programme of work focused on high priority national security related issues.Provide backfill (12 months) for an existing team in the Criminal Justice Policy Unit. The team leads on a fast-paced programme of work centred on the Government's law and order priorities, centring on the Crimes Act.Te Ahuatunga a Te Turanga/About The RoleOur work in the Policy Group is wide ranging, with opportunities to shape thinking and drive legislative change across the justice sector and all of government. We work at the interface of the executive, parliamentary and judicial branches of government. Our work is interesting and challenging, with a chance to apply your critical thinking and relationship management skills.
Successful candidates will be appointed to the Policy Group and placed in roles in the Courts and Justice Services Policy Unit and Criminal Justice Policy Unit, respectively. Courts and Justice Services Policy UnitYour work will involve providing advice on topical and important matters such as improving court timeliness, our legal aid system, and family law issues. The Courts and Justice Services Policy Unit works to strengthen trust in the laws of Aotearoa New Zealand, administering and providing advice on the legal frameworks, systems and policies that underpin courts and tribunals, family relationships, access to justice and the provision of legal services.
Criminal Justice UnitWork in the Criminal Justice Unit incorporates a broad focus on developments in criminal law, both internationally and domestically. We play a lead role in delivering advice in support of justice sector law and order priorities, including the development of new offences, approaches to sentencing, reducing harms, and tackling international and organised crime. We work with a range of stakeholders including those in the justice and social sectors, and national security agencies.

People management and capability development skills – You will enjoy coaching and developing your team and supporting individuals to grow and thrive.Policy leadership skills – You are a proven problem solver and have the confidence to work with complexity and ambiguity, supporting your team to deliver on high priority work.Relationship management skills – You can relate to all types of people, from a range of sectors and stakeholder groups.The successful candidates will have a relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent knowledge, skills, and experience. Experience with the legislative process would be a significant advantage but is not essential. Applicants for the role focused on national security issues should hold a current Top Secret security clearance, or have the ability to obtain one.

Utu a-tau/SalaryThe appointing salary for this role will be between $147,972 to $191,782, based on skills and experience.
