Leading people is challenging, yet rewarding and we need people who are committed, genuine and believe in the future direction of the team and organisation.Having experience or a background in detector dogs, and/or a relevant qualification in animal welfare and management is desirable.This position is based in Auckland, however you may at times be required to travel outside of Auckland.The salary range for this role is $87,772 - $110,453.
You will also receive an annual allowance of $4,301.About you I Ko wai koeThis is a Supervising Customs Officer (SupCO) role, which means you'll be managing people and their operational work.
To be successful in this role:You have demonstrable leadership skills and experience in coaching and mentoring others.You are approachable, supportive and willing to help.You make decisions with your team members' wellbeing, capability, and personal circumstances in mind.You remain calm and level-headed in stressful situations.You can have courageous conversations when required.You have a strong focus on continuously working towards a healthy and safe work environment.You are experienced in establishing and maintaining relationships with others to achieve win-win outcomes.Working alongside your Chief Customs Officer, you will be assisting with the overall direction and leadership of the Detector Dog unit and work closely with the other SupCO and two Customs Technical Specialists, located in Auckland and Christchurch.What's involved…You will need to obtain a Confidential national security clearance.
To achieve a Confidential clearance, you must be a New Zealand citizen or a permanent resident who has resided in New Zealand, Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom or the United States continuously for the last 10 years.
You must have a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the New Zealand Security Intelligence Service towards a recommendation of suitability for security clearance at a higher level.
Already having a Confidential clearance is a benefit, but not a requirement.Due to the nature of Customs' work all candidates must have a clear Police record.
Organisational Security clearances are mandatory and are conducted by Customs before job offers are made.
