To achieve this, Te Tari Pureke: is effectively implementing the firearms licensing systems; managing the Firearms Registry; educating people and ensuring compliance and enforcement through investigations and resolutions, while promoting the safe possession and lawful use of firearms in Aotearoa.
We are committed to fostering a culture of safe and responsible firearms use, gun ownership and awareness by working collaboratively with the firearms community, our stakeholders, and fellow agencies.
With an ongoing focus on ensuring those individuals who are identified as no longer fit and proper to hold a firearms licence are detected through good intelligence, investigations and enforcement which provides real and meaningful value in keeping our communities safe.
About the role The Manager – Regulatory Intelligence role is to deliver functions required under the Arms Act within the allocated Firearms portfolio, general group and team leadership and contributing to the overall success of the Group.
This role is critical to ensure robust and effective continuous eligibility scanning process, guaranteeing that firearms licence holders are consistently assessed as fit and proper.
This includes the proactive collecting and analysing information to detect and prevent firearms diversion and safeguarding against unlawful activities.
Join as a Senior Leader and support the Director – Regulatory Compliance and Investigations and in partnership with the Manager Investigations, Manager Compliance, and Manager Resolutions to implement an integrated operating model across the directorate.
As the Manager you will lead a skilled team to deliver timely, accurate, and actionable intelligence that supports both proactive and reactive measures, safeguarding public safety and ensuring compliance regulations.
Key Deliverables: * Lead and manage the Intelligence team, ensuring effective allocation of resources and prioritisation of intelligence activities.
* Support the development and maintenance of the Firearms Authority strategic and operational intelligence priorities.
* Oversee the development of intelligence products in support of the Firearms Safety Authority's regulatory, compliance and response activities and support the Firearms Authority's risk focussed, intelligence-led, evidence-based approach.
* Scope, plan and set priorities for the Intelligence work programmes.
* Provide expert guidance and support to intelligence analyst, ensuring accurate and timely intelligence products.
* Build and maintain strong, effective working relationships with key stakeholders across the organisation, sector, and regulatory partners.

The Ministry of Justice is responsible for policy advice and system oversight and NZ Police is responsible for law enforcement function.

Special requirements * Extensive experience in leading and conducting intelligence operations, preferably with a regulatory or law enforcement environment.
* Strong understanding of relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards in New Zealand.
* Relevant territory qualifications or equivalent experience * Hold or be able to obtain top secret security clearance.
* Minimum 10 years of experience in intelligence operations, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
* Certification in intelligence analysis or related professional certification is highly desirable.
