Tauranga Museum is a brand-new facility being constructed in the CBD as a key component of a revitalised civic precinct which will include a new library, refurbished art gallery and performing arts theatre, a civic whare and redeveloped waterfront.
Scheduled for opening in 2028, construction of the museum will commence in May 2025.As Collections Lead you will oversee the ongoing care of a collection of 35,000 objects and taonga and play a crucial role in preparing the collections for installation in the new museum.
You will also manage a programme of incoming loans for the first long-term exhibitions in the new facility, as well as working on incoming temporary exhibitions.The opportunity to play a key role in the construction of a major new museum is rare in Aotearoa New Zealand and we welcome applications from experienced professionals looking to make a mark and be part of something special.Nga Pukenga | What you'll need to succeedTo succeed in this role, you'll bring significant experience as a collections manager in a museum setting, preferably supervising other staff.
You will have a broad understanding of the museum sector in New Zealand and well-developed professional networks.
