Do you want to prevent crime and harm, and contribute to making New Zealand (NZ) the safest country? As an intelligence professional in the NZ Police this will be your focus every day.

Intelligence is an indispensable enabler for NZ Police that touches on every part of what we do. Annually, Police Intelligence produces approximately 50,000 products. Some are short and tactically focused, supporting day-to-day decisions, while others are more in-depth with a longer-term focus aiding the development of long-term operational plans and organisational strategy.

As an Intelligence Analyst you will be required to use a range of information sources, apply analytical tools and techniques to understand complex policing problems, and develop compelling, critical analysis and advice to inform prevention and enforcement. You will also start/continue your journey of learning and development as a skilled Intelligence Professional.

We are looking for people who are self-motivated, innovative, inquisitive, committed to excellence, resilient, and firmly focused on enhancing decision-making within NZ Police through the provision of timely, accurate and relevant intelligence.

Key Accountabilities:
Use critical thinking skills and analytical tools and techniques to interpret information and data to understand problems and provide solutions.
Develop intelligence products that exceed customer needs and effectively influence decision makers.
Contribute to core intelligence reporting and deliverables of the team.
Develop and maintain a wide range of professional relationships.
Take ownership of work through to the delivery of expected outcomes.
Proactively identify emerging or escalating trends relating to crime and harm.
Consider and champion diversity, different perspectives, and the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi in all intelligence outputs.
Contribute to a high-performing team culture and engage positively with stakeholders.

What you'll bring:
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
An ability to manage competing priorities and maintain quality outputs under pressure and within strict timeframes.
Demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively within teams and with stakeholders.
Be naturally inquisitive and able to apply critical thinking and analytical tools to provide insight and foresight on a range of complex problems and issues.
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).

Roles, workgroups, and locations for Analyst positions:
District Intelligence Units – 10 positions

District Intelligence Units provide direct support to tactical and operational Police decision-making, to prevent crime and harm at the local level. These teams provide insight into the nature of crime and harm by identifying trends, and forecasting future threats, risks, and opportunities.

Locations:
Northland District - Whangarei or Kerikeri – 1 position
Tamaki Makaurau / Auckland District – Otahuhu – 3 positions
Eastern District - Hastings or Gisborne – 1 position
Wellington District – 2 positions
Canterbury District - Christchurch - 1
Southern District - Dunedin – 2 positions
National Intelligence Centre – Police National Headquarters Wellington – 2 positions

Special requirements:
Hold a tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline.

To be eligible for the Police National Headquarters roles, you must be able to obtain and maintain a TOP SECRET national security clearance.

The minimum criteria for this level of national security clearance is:

NZ Citizen who has resided continuously in NZ for the last 10 years, or
A Permanent Resident who has resided continuously in NZ for the last 10 years, or
A citizen of or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last 10 years: Australia, Canada, United Kingdom, or United States of America, and has a background that can be verified by the NZSIS.

For the district-based positions - You may be asked to obtain and maintain a TOP SECRET national security clearance.

You may occasionally be required to work outside of set work hours and alternative locations for operational reasons. These roles are office based within the specified location.

Salary:
This position is covered by a collective agreement and salary will commence at $87,306.00 dependent on skills and experience relevant to the role.
