Waikato, New Zealand Longveld Full time

Position: People & Culture Manager
Purpose: To lead the human resources function at Longveld, supporting strategic direction by ensuring we have a resilient team well prepared for transformational change, operating within a safe and positive work environment.
Reports to: Managing Director
Direct reports: People and Culture Coordinator
Works closely with: Senior Leadership Team (SLT), all people leaders
Key Accountabilities:

Safety and Wellbeing

Safety and wellbeing come first at Longveld, with health being a fundamental part of wellbeing. It is of paramount importance that we provide a healthy and safe workplace and that our people work in a safe manner, not putting themselves or others at risk in any activities carried out on the organisation's behalf. We recognise the wider benefits of wellbeing to our team and encourage you to participate in Longveld's wellbeing programmes where relevant for you.
As an individual you have a responsibility to:

take reasonable care for your own health and safety.
take reasonable care that your acts or omissions do not adversely affect the health and safety of others.
comply, as far as you are reasonably able, with any reasonable instruction given to you to allow Longveld to comply with health and safety legal requirements.
co-operate with any reasonable policy or procedure relating to health or safety in the workplace that has been notified to you.
contribute to continuous improvement by raising issues and ideas, and participating in system development, implementation, monitoring and review, either directly or through representatives or managers.
report any hazards, incidents, injuries or defects observed.
not interfere with the scene of a notifiable event unless it is necessary to prevent further suffering, minimise property damage, or maintain access to essential services.

As the senior leader in the People & Culture area, you have a particular role in being a champion of our workplace safety and wellbeing and are fully accountable to:

have a full understanding of the health and safety risks associated with Longveld's operations.
implement all legal requirements within a best practice framework for workplace health and safety matters, advising and guiding our people on systems and processes to comply with these.
liaise with external agencies such as Worksafe New Zealand and ACC.
identify resource requirements for the development, implementation and maintenance of the health and safety management system, obtain approval for their provision, and secure and allocate resources accordingly.

Strategic Leadership

Our people and culture strategy, LEAP (Longveld Engagement and Progression), underpins leadership at Longveld. It is designed to ensure that everyone on Longveld's team is resilient, fulfilled, fully engaged, and returns home safe and sound each day. As the senior leader in the People & Culture area, you are accountable for the development and implementation of our LEAP strategy across Longveld, supporting all other leaders within the organisation to create a "this is the place to be" environment. This means supporting all leaders at Longveld, including yourself in the leadership of your own reports, to provide clarity of purpose, and build autonomy, mastery and succession.
As a senior leader you will:

ensure all contractual decisions and financial commitments that you make on behalf of Longveld follow company protocols and are within established delegated authorities.
ensure all legislative and compliance requirements relating to your department and affecting the organisation are met.
build intimate yet professional relationships within industry and community networks to leverage opportunities, identify best practice, and build on Longveld's positive reputation.
actively engage with your own professional development.

Organisational Development

We are a future-focused organisation with a diversification strategy to fuel our growth, and we are building a modern flexible workforce. You are accountable for developing our team's capability through the alignment of strategy, structure, people and management processes. You will have a hands-on role in talent development from recruitment through to exit since our People & Culture team is small, but this will change as we grow and our support team is able to expand.

General

This job description exists to give you clarity about your role at Longveld; however, it isn't exhaustive, and from time to time you may be asked to apply your skills and talents to a task not described here that assists the wider team to achieve our purpose.

Behaviour

This is the way we do things around here, so we can all enjoy a positive and supportive working environment. We demonstrate the Longveld values – the things that guide our decision-making – which are to:

Be Courageous: work through uncertainty, and step forward to explore the unknown, even when it's tough.
Be Wholehearted: bring all of yourself to be authentic in your interactions with others.
Be Appreciative: recognise and enjoy the good qualities of others, learn from each other and celebrate the team.

We:

take pride in what we do
show appreciation for the good work of others
add positive energy to conversations
share the load
own our mistakes
share our knowledge and learn new things
look for ways to do things better
speak up when something isn't right
make the effort to get to know each other and have fun together

Desired Skills and Experience:

at least 5 years' experience as a senior HR professional in a commercial environment, with an understanding of the nature of HR leadership in owner/founder-led organisations with smaller support teams.
in-depth working knowledge of employment and health and safety legislation.
working expertise in health & safety leadership in a safety-sensitive industry.
strengths in organisational development and change management.
experienced performance manager and conflict resolver.
high level of emotional intelligence with the ability to build positive relationships with, and work alongside, a diverse group of people.

proven ability to work calmly, productively and decisively under pressure.
