Auckland, New Zealand University Of Auckland Full time

Waipapa Taumata Rau | University of Auckland Waipapa Taumata Rau, the University of Auckland, is Aotearoa New Zealand’s leading university and one of the finest research institutions in the Asia-Pacific region. With over 40,000 students from more than 120 countries, six faculties and two large-scale research institutes spanning the full range of disciplines, and research that addresses questions of genuine consequence, the University occupies a unique position at the crossroads of the Pacific. Located in one of the world’s most liveable cities, Auckland combines the intellectual resources and cultural richness of a major comprehensive university with a commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi that is fundamental to its future direction. The Vice-Chancellor will lead the University through its next chapter of development, building on established strengths while responding to the opportunities and pressures facing universities worldwide. The role requires championing excellence and innovation in teaching and research, strengthening the University’s international standing, and ensuring its long-term sustainability in a rapidly evolving environment. It also means deepening partnerships with Māori and Pacific communities in ways that reflect the University’s distinctive context and commitments. The position demands someone who can work effectively across the full spectrum of university life – from fundamental research to applied innovation, from undergraduate education to doctoral training, from collegial decision-making to decisive action when required. Success depends on building strong senior teams, and leading through delegated authority and inspiration. We seek a leader of intellectual distinction and proven capability who understands what makes universities distinctive institutions and why they matter. You will bring senior leadership experience from a major research university or comparable institution, a genuine commitment to Te Tiriti partnership, and the ability to work authentically with diverse communities nationally, across the region and globally. You will be comfortable representing the University to government, iwi, industry, alumni, and the public, while earning and sustaining the trust and confidence of academic and professional staff through genuine consultation and respect for the University’s collegial traditions. Above all, you will combine strategic vision with the judgment, resilience, and humanity needed to lead a large and complex organisation through times of both opportunity and constraint. How to apply For further information and to apply in confidence, please contact Dr Birgit Brandt or Dr Gordon Lobay . The deadline for applications is 16 th November 2025, 5pm NZDT. #J-18808-Ljbffr
