Principal Advisor to the Chief Executive

Are you a master of strategy, organisation, and relationships? Step into a pivotal role as Principal Advisor to the Chief Executive at Gisborne District Council, where you’ll drive priorities, foster Tiriti partnerships, and keep operations running seamlessly.

You’ll recognise the importance of the role as a Treaty partner and understand how that underpins Gisborne District Council’s work.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver strategic advice to guide decision-making and organisational success.
  • Prepare high-impact reports, briefs, and communications to achieve key goals.
  • Build and maintain strong, enduring relationships with iwi, hapū, and stakeholders.
  • Lead daily operations of the Chief Executive’s Office with precision and expertise.
  • Embed Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles into strategy and operations.
  • Identify risks and opportunities to enhance reputation and performance.
Minimum Requirements:
  • A tertiary qualification in public policy or a related field.
  • Proven experience in senior advisory roles with strong leadership skills.
  • Expertise in relationship-building and working with iwi and Māori communities.
  • Exceptional communication skills—clear, concise, and impactful.
  • Political acumen and a knack for navigating sensitive issues.
