About the Role

As Principal Engineer, Product Engineering , you will be a key technical leader, shaping our product development and innovation strategy. You will guide multiple teams, leveraging your expertise to design secure, scalable, and high-performance software solutions. This role is instrumental in aligning our engineering efforts with strategic business objectives while promoting agility, continuous learning, and the adoption of cutting-edge technologies.

This position is more than just engineering; it’s about creating impact, fostering collaboration, and upholding our values of restless creation , truth-seeking , and manaakitanga .

The Stuff you’ll do

  • Drive adoption of agile practices and methodologies across teams.
  • Design scalable, decoupled architectures using modern patterns like Domain-Driven Design (DDD) and APIs.
  • Lead teams toward incremental delivery and rapid deployment.
  • Mentor engineers and deliver training on best practices such as TDD, BDD, and clean architecture.
  • Foster a culture of learning and innovation.
  • Champion strategic technical direction, ensuring alignment with business goals.
  • Evaluate and recommend emerging technologies and methodologies.
  • Implement and optimise CI/CD pipelines.
  • Collaborate with platform teams to ensure high-performance, reliable systems.
  • Advocate for secure design and coding practices.
  • Ensure software compliance with regulatory and security standards.
  • Work with cross-functional teams, including product managers and designers, to deliver innovative solutions.
  • Provide mentorship and lead knowledge-sharing initiatives.

What you’ll bring:

  • 7+ years in professional software development with strong technical leadership experience.
  • Expertise in languages like Java, TypeScript, Python , and frameworks/tools for web, cloud, and database development.
  • Proven track record in CI/CD, DevOps, and scalable architectures.
  • Advanced knowledge of security principles and compliance standards.
