Principal Engineer

A bit about us

For over 16 years, ClearPoint has helped organisations succeed in a continually changing digital landscape. We are a trusted technology partner combining digital design, software engineering, data and insights, cloud and platforms, and consulting services to help organisations adapt to change.

We pride ourselves on forming transformational collaborative partnerships that maximise value, deliver results and make a lasting impact through great outcomes and capability uplift. Through innovative thinking, we strive to make a difference for ourselves, our teams, our clients and our community across New Zealand and Australia.

The ClearPoint culture

We’re proud of the collaborative and inclusive culture we’ve fostered at ClearPoint by ensuring we all live and breathe our values:

  1. Respect and Care for People
  2. Act with Integrity
  3. Earn and Nurture Trust

Our diverse team enables us to better understand and serve our clients, attract the best talent and innovate successfully. So, from the moment you step through our doors, you’ll feel welcome and supported to do the best work you can.

Our head office in Auckland is a modern, functional space overlooking the Viaduct, and just a 5 minute walk from Britomart’s central transport hub. We’ve also got access to co-working spaces across New Zealand and Australia, to cater to some of our team and clients in different regions.

The role

We’re on the lookout for Principal Engineers interested in contract opportunities in New Zealand or in Australia with valid working rights. We need experts in full-stack engineering with a solid grasp of best practices. If you’re open to contracting, this is an excellent introduction to working with ClearPoint as an Associate (contractor), and an opportunity that could lead to further contract work if that is your preference. We are seeking applicants who are available to start as soon as possible.

The Principal Engineer role is pivotal to guide the technical trajectory of the Microsoft Engineering Business Unit within ClearPoint based in Auckland. You will be instrumental in shaping both external technical strategies for ClearPoint clients and industry engagement, as well as spearheading internal technical initiatives which bolster the growth and success of the Microsoft Engineering Business Unit.

We are looking for passionate Principal Engineers who will help drive and lead our market leading engineering capability along with our other Senior Engineering Leadership team members. This is a technical & strategic role where you'll find yourself leading a variety of teams and engagements contributing to modern software engineering practices, architecture, solution design, technical leadership through to hands on coding of software, pipelines and test automation. You’ll support our lead engineers and development teams in a way that encourages them to innovate and align to our values & meaningful outcomes for ClearPoint clients.

The experience we’re looking for

  • Previous experience at a Principal Engineering level
  • Strong knowledge of .NET technologies and C# development with 10+ years of experience
  • Proficiency in web application frameworks such as MVC, WebAPI, and .NET
  • Deep understanding of architecture and design principles for microservices and cloud architectures, including Event-Driven Architecture, GraphQL, and REST APIs
  • Significant experience with Docker and Kubernetes
  • Experience with DevOps methodologies and tools for continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD)
  • Skilled in front-end application frameworks, particularly React.js
  • Experience working in a cloud environment, preferably AWS
  • Database management: Skills in database design, management, and optimisation, including both SQL and NoSQL databases
  • Experience and practice with Agile development methods, tools, and processes such as SCRUM, FDD, BDD, and TDD
  • Security and compliance: Ability to create detailed technical documentation that can guide and assist team members and stakeholders

What you’ll be doing

  • Client delivery and client operations - responsible for the output and overall quality of Microsoft Engineering solutions for engagements within ClearPoint
  • Providing technical leadership and oversight for engineering projects, leading the engineering team day to day on the provision of technical solutions, including being able to get into the details of the design, development and quality assurance
  • Providing guidance of security best practices and compliance standards relevant to software development and cloud services
  • Being responsible for the establishment and refinement of CI/CD pipelines
  • Serving as a technical expert within the Microsoft Engineering domain, providing guidance and mentorship to the engineering team.

What’s on offer?

Work on Complex, Award-Winning, and Market-Leading Projects. There’s plenty of variety in the role, giving you the opportunity to carve your own path within ClearPoint.

These include health insurance and subsidised gym memberships as well as access to massages, a dog- and kid-friendly head office, drinks and snacks, barista coffee, and lots of opportunity to take part in team sports and other events if you fancy.

At ClearPoint we support flexible or remote working arrangements where appropriate that enable you to balance your work, life and passions. We have a number of ways to help us all stay connected, regardless of where you’re working from - Slack and Google Meet are key

What you’ll be working with (tech, tools and more)

We have a BYOD policy at ClearPoint to allow you to utilise whatever tech takes your fancy. For our permanent staff, we provide a yearly BYOD allowance and phone allowance, so you can choose the tech that best suits your needs.
