Senior Project Manager - Infrastructure and Investment at Te Whatu Ora, Northland
  • Whangarei
  • Permanent, Full-time

Health New Zealand Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is dedicated to serving all New Zealanders. Through integration and collaboration, we're building a health system underpinned by partnership, equity, sustainability, whānau-centred care, and excellence.

About the Role

The Senior Project Manager plays a vital role within high-performing project teams. In this position, you will take ownership of the integrated program for the project, navigate the various interfaces, and mobilise resources to ensure successful execution. You will serve as the primary point of contact, keeping stakeholders informed about timelines and developments.

This role offers the chance to represent some of the most intriguing, complex, and significant construction projects in the country, contributing to essential infrastructure while enhancing your technical and leadership skills in a supportive environment. With major projects underway in the regions, we need campus-based Senior Project Managers to assist our Project Directors and lead local project teams and contract work.

About the Team/Service/Location

The mission of the Infrastructure and Investment Group (IIG) is to provide the safe, fit for purpose health facilities, sites and equipment that are essential for a well-functioning health system. The IIG leads investment by understanding and managing these well, ensuring health facilities, sites, and equipment with the highest need of investment are prioritised and standardising the way these are maintained, refurbished or redeveloped.

About You

As a seasoned commercial Senior Project Manager, you will have experience leading project teams, dealing with senior stakeholders, and possess good business and political acumen.

You will have experience managing multiple, interconnected projects simultaneously as well as meeting deadlines, working within budgets and proactively addressing and mitigating any risks or issues to the projects.

  • Experience managing the commercial performance of projects, ensuring timely and meaningful responses to challenges, issues and opportunities, and enabling sustainable levels of high performance.
  • Tertiary qualification in project management, engineering, or construction management.
  • At least 7 years working knowledge of large-scale commercial construction processes in New Zealand.
  • Strong understanding of New Zealand and international standard forms of contract.
  • Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth.
  • Experience in projects/initiatives which give effect to Te Tiriti principles and frameworks, and the application of Mātauranga Māori and Kaupapa Māori approaches, particularly as they apply in healthcare settings.

Working for Health New Zealand

Health New Zealand Te Whatu Ora is 'the weaving of wellness'. We're dedicated to ensuring excellent healthcare for the people of Aotearoa/New Zealand. The Equity Work Programme at Health NZ focuses on helping everyone in the health system think about equity when they do their work. It also promotes the cultural change needed for the whole system to reach equity in health outcomes.

Our people are at the heart of everything we do. Health New Zealand is committed to being good employers and honouring our equal employment opportunity obligations.

Our Commitment to Equity, Diversity and Inclusion

  • We want to see the real you in your application and welcome the real you on board if you come and work with us. Skills are gained across many areas of our life, not just in formal employment. If you can demonstrate the skills listed in the ad, but the experience was gained through whānau life, community or mahi aroha (volunteering) we encourage you to apply and share your story with us in your cover letter.
