Through integration and collaboration, we’re building a health system underpinned by partnership, equity, sustainability, whānau-centred care, and excellence.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Emergency Medicine Specialist to join our Emergency Medicine team here at Waikato Hospital.

As a successful Emergency Medicine Specialist you will play a key role in providing Emergency Medicine to about 90,000 people per year, or 220- 250 a day. Our ED is the primary Emergency Medicine service for about 300,000 people based in Hamilton and the surrounding district, secondary for the entire Waikato DHB region (500,000 people), and a tertiary centre for the Te Manawa Taki region (1 million people, stretching from East Cape to Taranaki, and Coromandel to Mt Ruapehu). We admit to a hospital campus with all subspecialties, including Plastics, Psychiatry, Cardiothoracic and Neurosurgery, with over 600 beds on site.

Using your excellent leadership skills while on the floor with the rest of the team, you will be responsible for oversight of about 35 junior staff, including on the floor education, and have the opportunity to participate further in the formal teaching program as desired using your broad skill set in all major components of Emergency Medicine.

Joining a friendly and dynamic team of 25 Emergency Physicians providing care to all patients, you will enjoy working in a multidisciplinary team environment. Clinical support duties are varied, with a wide range of opportunities, including the chance to participate on a broad level if desired - one of our team has recently been the ACEM president, and another has been a NZ representative on the International Resuscitation Council.
