**Te Haeata/The Opportunity - 12 month fixed term or secondment**

***This is a rare opportunity to be responsible for providing specialist legal advice and support to the coronial inquiry into the 15 March 2019 Masjidain attack.

You will:

- Lead the provision of accurate and timely legal advice to the Deputy Chief Coroner presiding over the inquiry
- Provide legal advice on a wide range of the most complex issues, including new and novel issues
- Be part of a collaborative legal team working in a fast-paced environment

This is a 12 month fixed term role or secondment based in Wellington.

**Ō** pūkenga/Skills and Experience**

You will have:

- A Bachelor of Laws and hold a current practising certificate
- Legal experience and expertise, including acting in litigation in the civil or? criminal jurisdictions
- Experience providing and presenting written advice to a high standard
- Experience communicating with a wide range of audiences on complex issues

The Coroner's Court is made up of the Chief Coroner, the Deputy Chief Coroner and permanent Coroners, as well as Relief and Associate Coroners appointed for fixed terms. Coroners investigate certain types of deaths including those that are without known cause, self-inflicted, unnatural or violent to determine when, where, how and why the deaths happened. They'll also consider whether anything can be done differently so that similar deaths can be prevented.

The Coroners Court has nine regional offices, an Office of the Chief Coroner and a 24/7 National Initial Investigation Office.

The remuneration band for this role is $110,766 to 154,680 based on skills and experience.
