Are you interested in New Zealand's primary industries? This is an exciting opportunity to join the Agriculture, Forestry & Corporate Law team in MPI Legal Services as a senior commercial solicitor and become part of a busy and collegial Directorate that provides legal advice across a diverse and rewarding range of work within the large and dynamic organisation that is the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI).
This position is permanent position and preferably full time. There may also be fixed term opportunities within MPI Legal Services.

Mōu - About You

**To be considered for this role, you will need**:

- A relevant tertiary qualification in law and a current New Zealand practising certificate, or the immediate ability to hold one.
- Significant post-admission experience in commercial law, or another relevant area of law.
- Good attention to detail and drafting skills.
- A can-do attitude with a proven track record in the delivery of useful and high-quality legal advice.
- A proven track record in building strong relationships with, and providing useful advice to, senior-level officials.
- Experience and a real interest in supervising, mentoring, and coaching less experienced solicitors.
- Ability to support the Team Manager in the planning and management of resources and making process improvements for the benefit of the team, directorate, and our clients.

**Desirable**:

- Experience working in-house for a large regulator.
- Public law experience
- Knowledge of legislation administered by MPI and the regulatory environment in which MPI operates.

The Agriculture, Forestry & Corporate Law Team provides general public law, legislative development, and litigation support to MPI staff working in the areas of climate change, agriculture and forestry, and provides commercial & corporate law support to MPI staff working across MPI.

Low level Security Clearance
- most preferably a New Zealand citizen, who has resided continuously in New Zealand for at least the last five (5) years, OR
- is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last five (5) years: either Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom (UK) or the United States of America (USA); and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the New Zealand Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at this level.
