Mō te tūnga / About the role
We are looking for a senior solicitor to join the Legal Services team at Te Tari Taiwhenua (Department of Internal Affairs). The Legal Services Team is made of two teams - the Policy and Regulatory Legal Team and the Commercial and Corporate Legal team. This role is for a 12-month fixed term senior solicitor in the Policy and Regulatory Legal Team.
Our mahi at Te Tari Taiwhenua spans across so many areas, your day will never be the same. We advise on matters focusing on gambling, digital safety, anti-money laundering, local government, charities, and citizenships just to name a few. In this role you will work closely with policy colleagues across a range of portfolios, including supporting the Water Services reform. You will provide legal advice throughout the development of policy, issue drafting instructions and liaise with Parliamentary Counsel Office, and generally support the progress of legislation through the legislation making process.

**Ideally, you will bring to this role**:

- proven legislative development experience and the ability to switch between being a high-level policy thinker and being detail-focused reviewer of legislation;
- preferably some experience advising on operational and regulatory matters;
- great written and verbal communication skills and the ability to tailor advice for the audience;
- strong relationship management skills and the ability to influence others;
- passion for mentoring and sharing knowledge and expertise with others;
- 5 years or more PQE;
- a current practicing certificate or the ability to hold one.
