IT Operations Manager

**What we are looking for**
We are seeking an experienced IT Operations Manager with strong leadership and soft skills, with a technical background in operational IT. Experience managing both on-premises and cloud systems with a strong technical background in Microsoft and Linux technologies is advantageous.
You will be joining our highly skilled and experienced country wide IT Management Team and the role is based in Wellington. The role leads a team of Administrators, Engineers and IT professionals who deliver solutions enabling the future of environmental research for all New Zealanders.
You will be involved with the management and support of NIWA's infrastructure and systems throughout New Zealand, including the systems on our two science vessels, ensuring a robust, resilient, and secure information technology environment is maintained.

- Strong management experience
- Change control and process management skills
- Understanding of modern practices, CI/CD, automation, infrastructure as code
- Operational incident management
- Operational Cyber Security fundamentals
- Ability to mentor staff through their careers
- Strong technical background Information Technology systems and operations
- Ability to fit into an established team of talented management staff.
- A team player with a good sense of humour and a "Can do" attitude and able to effectively communicate with a wide range of people.
