The Digital Forensic Technician supports the Criminal Intelligence Team within the Joint Military Police Unit (JMPU) to detect, disrupt, prevent and prosecute criminal activity.
You will be a key member of the small supportive team, assisting the Senior Digital Forensic Technician. In turn, the Senior Digital Forensic Technician will provide you with training and coaching support.
You will be required to assist with producing technically accurate and legally compliant extractions from electronic and digital media devices and analyse your findings. You will produce tactical intelligence products that inform and support prevention, intervention and enforcement activities within the military environment.

**Key duties include**:

- Discovering, preserving, analysing and documenting digital forensic evidence by extracting data from networks, systems, and digital devices; ensuring integrity, accuracy and reliability is carefully maintained;
- Using and maintaining contemporary forensic analysis software and hardware in order to comply with legal requirements and industry best practice in the analysis process;
- Compiling and producing timely and accurate analytical reports under supervision, using a full range of analytical techniques to identify, describe and interpret information;
- Building and maintaining relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, agencies and organisations; and
- Understanding and complying with NZ legislative requirements in the forensic analysis of all electronic and digital media devices.

As this role is with the Joint Military Police Unit, you will be working in an environment where discretion and confidentiality is paramount. You will be part of a team that is a mix of civilian personnel and military members from all three Services.
This role is based in Trentham however flexibility to travel within New Zealand is required.
The JMPU polices NZ military personnel based in New Zealand and deployed overseas. This role requires domestic and international travel as required to respond to investigation needs. You will therefore need a current NZ Passport and Class 1 Driver's License.

We are looking for someone who has general understanding and knowledge of digital forensics. You will be motivated and willing to learn and will take advantage of the training and development opportunities available. You will have excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills with the ability to self manage and ensure the delivery of products and services to a high standard.

**Ideally, you will have**:

- Understanding and knowledge of forensic analytical software/hardware and processes;
- A good understanding of digital operating systems;
- Knowledge of multimedia attributes, data structures and storage;
- The ability to present evidence in summary and/or criminal proceedings;
- The ability to develop and deliver presentations; and
- A wide range of computer skills with proven ability to use the MS Office Suite.

Basic experience in intelligence analysis in a tactical or operational context, preferably within a criminal or law enforcement environment, would be advantageous but is not essential.

The Joint Military Police Unit (JMPU) polices the force and provides police for the mission. To police the force, the JMPU has MP based in NZDF bases/camps throughout the country to provide law enforcement, crime prevention, investigation of serious & criminal incidents, and custodial support to the NZDF. The unit maintains flyaway teams to provide support wherever the NZDF is in the world. The JMPU also prepares MP personnel and groups as police for the mission to provide specialist MP skills anywhere in the world, deployed as part of a land mission or posted on board one of Navy's ships.
The Military Police Criminal Intelligence Cell (MPCIC) is required to provide timely, accurate, and usable criminal intelligence in a tactical, operational, and strategic context. The role enables JMPU policing operations; directly supports the development of military policing strategies across the different single Service environments, and provides essential data to inform NZDF Senior Leadership.
