Forensic Senior Technician

Te tūnga | The role
We are seeking a Senior Technician to join the Forensic Drug Chemistry Laboratory for a full time fixed term contract until February 2026. This role is based within the Forensic Business group and is located at our Mount Albert Science Centre (MASC) in Auckland.
In this role, you will be involved in:
- Providing technical assistance in the scientific examination of items for forensic and drug checking purposes to the specified standard,- Preparing samples for analysis, carrying out that analysis (using FTIR, GC, GCMS or HPLC) and reporting results with supporting documentation to the reporting scientist,- Tracking the examination and analyses through a laboratory information management system (LIMS)- Undertaking instrument maintenance and calibration (including FTIR, GC, GCMS and HPLC),- Day to day technical, quality assurance and administrative tasks to support the outputs of the Drug Chemistry Laboratory.

To be successful in this role, you will have some or all of the following:
- A relevant tertiary qualification in science (preferably chemistry), with experience in an analytical testing laboratory.- Experience in the use of analytical instrumentation including microscopes, FTIR, GC, GCMS and HPLC is desirable.- Experience of following laboratory protocols, recording experimental findings and preparing reports.- Excellent written and oral communication skills, along with a moderate level of relevant computer skills.- The ability to demonstrate basic understanding of Te Reo me ona tikanga Māori and understanding of the principles and values that uphold Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
