**Job Purpose**

This role will establish and continually develop the rollingstock team and system engineering governance used to support the safe and effective rail operations as part of the AOR franchise.
- This role will be responsible for the resolution of engineering issues resulting from operation and maintenance activities. This role is responsible for defining and delivering the fleet refurbishment and major overhaul programs to ensure the highest levels of compliance, safety, operational performance, and comfort for the people of Auckland.
The Head of Maintenance Engineering will develop a team of specialist rolling stock engineers and nurture a continuous improvement culture within the team.
The role operates under the general direction of the GM Assets and liaises with a range of internal and external stakeholders. These include operational personnel, service providers, contractors, the client and members of the public.

**Responsibilities**

The Head of Maintenance Engineering will be responsible for the following activities:

- Lead the strategy development and delivery of actions required to transition the rollingstock maintenance activities from the current EMU maintainer to AOR by the end of 2025.
- Recruit and build a new rollingstock engineering team to support the initial development of the engineering strategy and future maintenance activities. Including the development and review of Position Descriptions, leading interviews and managing the onboarding process of new team members.
- Provide engineering leadership and management for the maintenance of the Rollingstock fleet (95 EMUs).
- Ensure the Auckland One Rail rollingstock activities undertaken by the current contractor align with the technical and operational compliances applicable to the railway industry.
- Be the primary point of communication with AOR’s partners to draw on their expertise and knowledge on rollingstock maintenance and asset management.
- Lead the development and implementation of engineering governance structure for all relevant systems of the rollingstock fleet.
- Engage and manage subcontractors on the delivery of activities related to the transition of the rollingstock maintenance from the current maintainer to AOR.
- Report on the rollingstock maintenance transition progress, forecast, risks, and mitigations to AOR’s Executive Leadership Team and the client (Auckland Transport).

**Qualifications**
- A minimum of 10 years’ experience in leadership roles. Demonstrated experience working in rollingstock maintenance environments in technical and managerial roles.
- Sound knowledge of asset management, reliability, engineering and procurement standards and processes.
- A degree qualified engineer, ideally complemented by further studies leading to a master’s degree.
- Hold a Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) accreditation.
- Demonstrated experience overseeing the complete life cycle of multimillion-dollar projects. Proven ability to manage and successfully deliver engineering activities with a team of multi-faceted engineers.
