As part of our strategic growth plan, we're looking to recruit a Head of Engineering to join our team based in Wellington, NZ.

**Job Overview**
The Head of Engineering is a tactical technology leadership role, a member of the technology leadership team and reports through to the Director of Technology. The role is focused into two areas, the realisation of the quarterly outcomes for the engineering department and the continuous improvement of Totara's engineering capability. You will be responsible for the realisation of quarterly outcomes that support the technology vision and strategy and through leading engineering responsibility in support. You will achieve this by unifying a team of engineering managers and discipline leads to collectively and consistently lead the engineers to success in realising their outcomes. You will own the definition and progression of engineering competencies, ensuring the engineering department is able to meet the skill level requirements as they evolve over time.

Growing our engineering capacity, and capability, and recruiting where growth permits is essential to the success of the Head of Engineering. This is a critical role to Totara Learning Solutions in the successful delivery of technology outcomes. You will be a key member of the technology leadership team and support the Director of Technology in the journeying of the engineering team in line with Totara's vision, mission and values.

**Responsibilities**
- Supporting the navigation of product and technology strategic outcomes into achievable quarterly outcomes
- Unifying the engineering managers and discipline leads to collaboratively solve challenges
- Fostering a leadership culture that leads to consistent delivery on all outcomes within timeframes and to quality standards
- Overseeing the professional development and performance management of Totara's engineers
- Ensuring the delivery of Totara's products and services live up to the world beating, enterprise level environments they are used within
- Managing the technical support of Totara's products and services
- Recruitment of engineers; identifying areas for needed growth and upskilling
- Developing a culture of continuous improvement in all aspects in line with Totara's vision, mission, and values
- Continually improving development practices and processes for the engineering team

- Understand the critical importance of people and culture to an organisation's journey and the necessity to develop, enable and empower those around you
- Be a clear, capable communicator who can translate across disciplines and roles and draw the best out of everyone around you
- Have knowledge of open source development, the consequence of licensing, and how to manage the inflection of these on the already
multifaceted fronts of enterprise product development
