**Toitū te marae a Tāne-mahuta, Toitū te marae a Tangaroa, Toitū te tangata**.**

**If the land is well and the sea is well, the people will thrive.**

At the Department of Conservation Te Papa Atawhai (DOC) we express our spirit of service and serve Aotearoa through our purpose, Papatūānuku Thrives. Our organisational strategy, Te Kaupapa a Te Papa Atawhai, puts nature and people at the heart of everything we do. It is anchored by te reo Māori and te ao Māori, recognising that Te Tiriti o Waitangi and our relationship with our whānau, hapū and iwi are central to all our work.

Our Commercial Team works closely with internal stakeholder groups to influence and drive commercial pricing behaviours with the overall aim of delivering the results sought by DOC (e.g., optimise return, incentivise the right visitor behaviour, drive economic efficiency, implement a fair and reasonable fee structure).

The team also provides commercial advice to influence operational business strategy and ministerial advice. We do this through the development of innovative economic tools, pricing, and commercial analysis to support sustainable allocation and protection of conservation resources.

**He angitūtanga** | About the role**

As Principal Commercial and Revenue Advisor you will provide expert commercial advice and lead the development of fit-for-purpose valuation methods and quality assurance processes. You'll also lead negotiations of high value/high risk opportunities with individual businesses, with the overall aim of delivering the results sought by DOC.

To inform your thinking and strategic advice, you will be quick to identify national and international developments in valuation and commercial models that can be applied to our landscape.

In this role you'll also get the opportunity to develop your leadership skills within the Commercial team with whakawhanaungatanga as a guiding principle and approach to how you conduct business.

**He kōrero mōu** | What we are looking for**

The position requires someone who is commercially astute, a skilled communicator and strongly aligned to our Kaupapa.

Ideally, you'll come from a commercial, financial, or strategic background with experience in valuations, pricing, or a related field.

To be considered for the role you will have:

- strong research methodology and analytical skills
- advanced experience in managing stakeholder engagements, partnerships, and negotiations - with the ability to lead and influence commercial negotiations and projects
- strong understanding of the commercial context for businesses (ideally operating on conservation land)
- strong cultural awareness - able to engage and work in partnership with whānau, hapū and iwi and understands the implications of the Treaty on today's society and the Conservation Act's Section 4 requirements
- good communication skills - clear and impactful to engage others in a vision.

**Rā katinga | Applications close** at 5 pm on Friday, 18 August 2023.

**Taupānga | Job reference**: DOC/1733385
- Eligibility to work in New Zealand is mandatory - this includes holding a valid work visa that covers the whole period of employment._
