The **Spending Review Team **is a specialist team within Te Tai Ōhanga - The Treasury with an exciting programme of work. The team carries out proactive and priority reviews that look at how public money has been spent and whether it is delivering on its intended outcomes. Our work brings together policy, systems, financial and data analysis skills to improve value for New Zealanders.

**Kōrero mō te tūranga | About the Role**

We have opportunities within our team for a Senior Analyst and an Analyst to support our programme of work.

Senior Analyst role

The Senior Analyst will lead review projects. This involves: taking charge on the quality and delivery of project deliverables; strong policy and analytical skills; informal people leadership as you support a small team of senior analysts/analysts to deliver; and engagement with senior executives and Ministers. You will join a relatively new team where you'll help with building our team culture, processes and approach. This role is likely to suit an experienced senior analyst looking for a role where they can demonstrate the leadership skills necessary to promotion to a Team Leader / Manager role.

**Ō pūmanawa | About You**
- Excellent analytical and strategic thinking skills, with strengths in either systems, policy and/or financial analysis within Government
- Highly developed communication, influencing and relationship management skills
- An organised, proactive mind-set, where you take initiative and ownership of a project
- Experience leading complex projects and an effective problem solver
- Demonstrated ability in supporting, mentoring and developing others
- High emotional intelligence, cultural intelligence and a growth mind-set
- High level of adaptability and resilience, comfortable working on fast moving and high priority issues.

Analyst role

The Analyst will use policy, machinery of government and/or financial skills to conduct spending review projects. As part of a project team, you will lead workstreams and relationships with external and internal colleagues. You will also support the development of the team's broader frameworks for spending reviews, and our culture, processes and approach. We are a team dedicated to development, learning, and being multi-disciplinary there will be plenty of opportunity to hone your skills.

Please note this is not an entry-level position for recent graduates. It would suit someone who has recently completed a graduate programme in the public sector, or with analyst-level experience in the public or private sector.

**Ō pūmanawa | About You**
- An interest in understanding public sector value for money
- Experience in one or more of public policy, economic policy, accounting / strategic finance, data and vote analysis
- Critical thinking and an ability to see issues from a range of perspectives
- Good communication, interpersonal, influencing, and relationship management skills
- An ability to plan and deliver work effectively in a dynamic environment.

**Ko ngā hua | What we Offer**

Our Spending Review team is a diverse, multi-disciplinary team who support each other by combining our strengths and learning together (ma to rourou, ma taku rourou, ka ora te iwi - with your gifts and mine, everyone grows).

You'll have the opportunity to be at the forefront of designing systems that will impact the public service and help shape the broader framework for spending reviews.

Some of the ways we support diversity and inclusion, and help our people to thrive at Te Tai Ōhanga, include:

- The opportunity to work in a supportive and high-performing team and internal opportunities across the organisation
