Principal Power Systems Engineer

The core objective of the Power Systems team is to provide insights and supported analysis so our business and customers can make informed decisions regarding using our network. As a Principal Power Systems Engineer, you will support this by designing, developing, testing and running power systems models, including network studies, scenario analysis and process automation. You will also be a key contributor to the development of analytic tools to utilise the vast amounts of data we have at our fingertips.
In this role, you will be collaborating with team across the business as well as interacting with regulators, government agencies, suppliers and other EDB’s to ensure we are supporting the long-term operation of the power system.

**The role**:
- Create, update and maintain power flow models
- Power system dynamic modelling and engineering supporting the long-term operation of the power system, including new control and monitoring technologies
- Analysis of the network to identify power issues, monitor activity, loss optimisation and system security exceptions
- Lead the optimisation, improvement and accuracy of modelling processes
- Develop processes to assess the impact of connections of load or generation on our network security, quality and reliability across multiple scenarios
- Mentor and support the development technical capability within the business and wider industry
**About you**:
Level 7 Electrical Engineering qualification with experience across power system modelling and spatial temporal analysis in a transmission or distribution network context
- Extensive knowledge of power system simulation computer programmes (PSS Sincal) and real-time simulation technologies
- Experience in an engineering role working on transmission or distribution networks
- Ability to convey complex engineering information within a range of simplified forms supporting various audiences
- A creative, collaborative, challenging and intuitive approach to your work
- Confidence with making decisions now for an unknown future with strong research skills
- Understanding of the NZ regulatory environment specifically the Electrical Industry Participation Code
