**He angitūtanga: The opportunity**
Are you passionate about stormwater and environmental protection? Auckland Council’s Healthy Waters & Flood Resilience department is looking for dedicated interns to help us manage, plan, and develop stormwater systems. We work collaboratively with iwi and communities to future-proof Auckland’s water, ensuring healthy environments and resilient stormwater systems.
As an intern, you will be working in one or more of the following areas:
- Support our operational teams with stormwater network issues while ensuring best practice, safety and customer satisfaction
- Assist the design and delivery team with planning, design and overseeing the construction and implementation of stormwater infrastructure projects
- Join our resource management team and assess sites for overland flow path compliance, or help develop a new private stormwater device database
- Undertake research and peer reviews on riparian margins for our waterways planning team
- Assist our Safeswim programme, or undertake field sampling for our Safe Networks Programme
- Work with communities on projects that build flood resilience
- Data mining and analysis for special projects
**Ngā āhuatanga kei a mātou: What we offer**
Embark on a journey of professional growth and hands-on experience with the Auckland Council Internship Programme. Designed for students in their penultimate year of a bachelor's degree, or in a continued masters programme, this paid three-month summer internship, running from 18 November 2024 to 14 February 2025, offers full-time work that aligns with your field of study.
You'll engage in meaningful work, contributing to the development of Auckland as a world-class city, while receiving career development opportunities.
As an intern, you'll be immersed in a supportive environment, with mentorship and networking opportunities that pave the way for a potential future within the council. You’ll be part of Auckland Council’s internship whānau and will be supported every step of the way by a team who want you to succeed including a buddy, liaison, Careers Team, and the wider intern cohort.
Upon completion, interns may receive priority consideration for the Graduate Programme, setting the stage for a robust career start.
**He kōrero mōu: About you**
As an intern in the Healthy Waters & Flood Resilience team, you are enthusiastic about learning and contributing to the planning, development, and management of stormwater systems. You bring a proactive attitude, excellent problem-solving skills, and a keen interest in environmental protection. Your ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and communities, including iwi, will be essential in helping us achieve our goals.
- Be in your penultimate year studying towards a relevant Bachelor's degree, or continuing into a Master’s level of study in 2025.
- Be eligible to work in New Zealand full-time from November 2024- February 2025
- Have a NZ Restricted Driver’s License.
