The opportunity
This is a great opportunity for 3rd / 4th year Food Technology/Science students to be a member of the Research & Development (R&D) function over the summer. The summer internship opportunity is for the Meadow Fresh dairy factory in Christchurch. As a summer intern you will also get exposure to how different types of milk and cream products are produced for the domestic and international markets. The summer intern will have the opportunity to learn and assist factory trials and NPD projects. It is also a great opportunity to work on a R&D project that will contribute to process improvement for the R&D team and the factory. We are looking for a summer intern who would be interested in doing a project relating to whipping cream processing and shelf-life analysis.

The summer intern will be responsible for assisting the Technologist in developing, documenting and implementing product solutions to meet specified outcomes. The role applies food technology and project management skills to help support the current and new projects in an organised and disciplined manner ensuring full risk management is undertaken during the process. The role will help you learn how to build and maintain strong working relationships with operations, technical staff and other relevant departments. This role will also help you understand the product development cycle and key concepts of dairy processing, sensory, shelf life testing etc. You will report to the Sr. Product Commercialization & Systems Technologist based at the Christchurch site.

**Key accountabilities include**:

- As part of the R&D team input to and participate in R&D projects
- On time successful project delivery as requested
- Ensure correct project documentation in place
- Ensure regular and relevant communication with project stake holders
- Implementation of agreed development processes and reporting requirements
- Identify opportunities to increase profitability and reduce cost
- Ensure own leadership behaviours are consistent with the vision, goals, values and priorities for GFNZ.
- Make an active contribution to the team environment, through sharing knowledge and collaborating with others to build a high performing team.
- Ensure all health and safety regulations are adhered to when at operational facilities.

About you
- Currently studying (3rd/4th Year) for a university degree in food /technology/science/engineering
- University projects related to manufacturing environment and exposure or knowledge to FMCG and industry will be an advantage
- Strong numerical and analytical skills
- Strong communication both written and verbal, in English
- Learning agile
- Self-driven and motivated
- Receptive to feedback
- MS Office software (e.g. Word, Excel, Power-point).
