Our Environmental Services department is looking for an experienced and motivated leader to support and manage our high performing Ecological Advice Team. The team of 11 direct reports is responsible for providing a range of technical ecological and natural features advice and expertise to drive best practice and the effective delivery of natural environment outcomes.

As a natural leader, a key part of your role will be to inspire, support and engage our people and preserve a great team culture. Your passion for making a positive impact on Auckland’s natural environment will shine through - as will your ability to build and maintain relationships and influence others to support the work of your team, their profile and service offering.

Day-to-day you could expect to:

- Coach, mentor, motivate, manage and trust the team to deliver effective and efficient services.
- Prioritise and programme work to meet cost recovery targets.
- Help problem solve and support conflict resolution when needed.
- Develop, implement, and review business processes to ensure high-quality and efficient customer service.
- Promote best practices for indigenous biodiversity protection, outstanding natural features and ecological restoration.

**He kōrero mōu: About you**
You’re an effective, positive, experienced leader who understands the value of specialist advice and providing a technical service to lead best practice and support others to deliver prioritised work programmes. You have a strategic, innovative approach and a level of technical understanding of the natural environment and regulatory processes that enables you to set direction and guide your team.

You will enjoy being part of our expert, committed and capable Environmental Services Department. Our priority is providing the best possible working environment for our staff, which includes a focus on employee wellbeing and career progression opportunities. Joining Environmental Services will provide you with the opportunity to work across the whole council family, with our mana whenua partners, consultants, non-government organisations and central government to support best practice conservation practices and outcomes.

We will be looking for someone with:

- Full NZ driver's license
- Bachelors degree in ecology, biosecurity, geology, environmental science or other relevant field (Masters degree preferred)
- 10 years’ work experience in biodiversity, biosecurity, or conservation sector
- 3+ years’ experience in a line management role with demonstrated track record of effective team building with demonstrable influencing and communication skills
