Mō te tūnga | About the role Reporting to the Chief Legal Advisor, you will provide leadership in relation to the Ministry's commercial work, which includes grant and development funding programmes (including for large scale projects), and facilitation of housing and urban development projects. You will also provide operational advice and support to the Ministry's business units on other matters. This is a thought and team leadership role. Drawing on your expertise you will contribute to the management, strategy and business planning for the legal team. You will play a key role in coaching and mentoring team members to support overall capability development. You will also maintain oversight of the branch's current work in the area of commercial law. The salary range for this role is $136,146 - $166,401 Ō wheako, ō pukenga | About you We would ideally like someone with Principal-level legal expertise in New Zealand commercial law, with a particular emphasis on corporate structures, finance, and property development. Or, you may be an inhouse counsel with a working knowledge of these areas who is looking for a development opportunity. You will also have the following:
- Proven ability to provide sound advice across all levels of the organisation
- Well-developed written and verbal communication ability which will allow you to convey concise messages and ideas or simplify complex issues suitable to the audience
- Strong contract drafting skills
- Proven ability to coach and mentor others
You will bring an awareness of Māori values, practice and perspective to your work, and commitment to growing your knowledge of Te Ao Māori, te reo me tikanga, while supporting others to do the same. A knowledge of Māori entities and Māori land law would be an advantage.
