Mō tēnei tūranga | About this role
The Principal Advisor Health and Safety is responsible for leading the development, implementation and monitoring of health and safety policies, processes and tools to ensure the successful delivery of the health and safety programme within the Ministry of Education's Health, Safety work programme. Such work is undertaken in collaboration with managers and staff across the Ministry to provide expert advice, support, guidance, and training to continuously improve the Ministry's Health and Safety position and culture.

**As the Senior Health and Safety Advisor, you will**:

- Promote a strong health, safety, security and privacy culture at the Ministry by working alongside other advisors and senior advisors, managers and their teams to increase understanding of the mandatory requirements of health and safety in particular as well as, security and privacy management and best practices to comply with that.
- Undertake projects, as directed by the Team Manager Health and Safety to improve and lift health and safety practice across the Ministry.
- Collaborate with advisors and colleagues across the Ministry to provide support in identifying and monitoring health and safety risks at the regional and enterprise level and to ensure effective controls are put in place to minimise such risks.
- Build and maintain effective relationships and partnerships with internal and external stakeholders in order to share best practice information and to promote the Ministry's services and outcomes.
- Represent the Ministry well in all dealings internally and externally and protect the reputation of the organisation in external interactions.
- Act as a key representative for the Ministry at the Government Health and Safety Lead Forums as well as with WorkSafe.
- Provide expert advice and support to staff and key stakeholders across the Ministry including training, incident management, engagement and reporting at an operational level
- Continuously seek ways to improve and streamline the team's service delivery through the development of tools / resources / and self-services tools.
- Contribute to the Ministry meeting its obligation as set out in the Worker Participation Agreement.

Mōhou ake | About you
As the Principle Health and Safety Advisor you will bring your sound knowledge of HSWA Requirements, and ability to lead, coach and mentor others to achieve shared outcomes.

**You will also demonstrate**:

- Relevant experience in health and safety in a Principal advisory capacity.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with a wide range of people.
- Ability to quickly understand a wide range of business contexts and environments relevant to Business Services work - business improvement.
- Ability to collaborate with a wide range of teams across the Ministry, both in National Office and regional offices.

Mātau rōpū ake | About our ministry, group, and team
At Te Tāhuhu o te Mātauranga, we work to provide services and support nationally, regionally and locally to the education sector, and in some cases, directly to ākonga and whanau. To better deliver on this, we are currently undergoing an organisational design change. The transition phase to improve the way we deliver our purpose will be complete in 2023.
