Ngā whakamārama mō te tūnga | About the opportunity
Te Manatū Waka recently established a new structure and operating model that positions us well to support the incoming government to deliver its priorities. We have opportunity for two Policy Advisers in our Investment team.
The Investment team provides advice and maintains oversight around the direction and performance of the transport investment system. The job can be various, ranging from leading the development of the annual transport budget, developing and managing the Government Policy Statement (GPS) on land Transport or providing advice on specific transport projects and investments.

**Key areas of work you maybe involved in include**:

- Supporting the development, implementation, and management of the Government Policy Statement on Land Transport (GPS). This is a high-profile programme that will guide over $20biliion of investment into the transport system over the next three years.
- Supporting the development, implementation, and management of the Transport Budget process. Equally high profile this work considers the value of approximately $6-7 billion of investment per annum into the transport system.
- Supporting the development of a programme of work on a future investment system and how this can improve the way we invest in New Zealand's transport system.
- Providing authoritative guidance and advice to stakeholders and the sector in the area of investment support and advice

To work in the role, you will be expected to have experience and/or an interest in:

- Developing and maintaining a good understanding of the principles and practices relating to transport policy
- Preparing policy advice on transport issues including Cabinet papers and briefs for the relevant Ministers, and comment on papers prepared by other agencies
- Conducting research relevant to transport
- Preparing or contributing to ministerial speeches, media statements and responses to parliamentary questions, and draft replies to ministerial and department correspondence
- Attending Cabinet Committees and Select Committees as required
- Representing the Ministry of Transport in a wide range of situations, including government agencies, transport sector and community groups


Te wāhi ki a koe | What you'll bring
Ideally you have knowledge surrounding policy and investment advice, but we are also interested in talking to those of you at the start of your careers, what we will be looking for:

- An understanding and/ or an interest in public policy and investment and its role in relation to the transport sector
- Project management and the ability to manage your time
- Knowledge of, or an interest in public sector processes and the machinery of Government
- A tertiary qualification in a relevant field
- Awareness of legislation
- Numerical and analytical skills
- Good written and verbal communication skills.


Whānuitanga Utu ā-Tau | Salary range
The salary range for the role is $69,507 - $90,971. The salary offered will be based on skills and experience.
