DOC is seeking a Governance & Performance Advisor to join the Governance & Performance Team in overseeing the performance of entities and boards across the Crown's Conservation portfolio, delivering work programmes across the Crown's Conservation portfolio. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the best practice governance and performance of core entities that are vital to the well-being of our country.
The position will be focussed on:
- providing expert advice, providing strategic insights for the Minister on crucial accountability documents, such as Statements of Intent, Performance Expectations, and Annual Reports
- crafting annual letters of expectation on behalf of the Minister and contribute to advice concerning Crown entity performance
- collaborating with a close-knit team, you will actively participate in planning processes, helping to shape strategies and work programs that elevate the effectiveness of entity monitoring and engagement
- drafting responses to Ministerial requests, Parliamentary questions, and inquiries under the Official Information Act to ensure transparent and informed governance.

You will bring an ability to see the big picture, with strong analytical skills that enable you to effectively advise Ministers, Chief Executives and senior decision makers. Your innovative thinking will help shape the work programme and identify new approaches.
You will need to have strong skills in developing high quality and concise advice for Ministers, along with the confidence to engage with Chief Executives and Boards. You may have a background in Crown entity monitoring or specific skills in analytics, project management and coordination, risk and assurance, regulatory, policy, funding and/or commercial, and are a solid writer.
If you have the following attributes, we are keen to hear from you:
- Experience providing governance and performance advice, ideally within a government or public sector context.
- Strong understanding of statutory requirements, accountability documents, and governance practices.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
- A relevant tertiary qualification, or equivalent experience.
Desirable
- Awareness of Matauranga Maori, understanding of basic protocols.
