**Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity**

We are seeking motivated applicants with a practical ”can do” attitude. Completion of a pre apprenticeship course would be advantageous but not essential. As an Apprentice you will gain a wide range of skills which will equip you well for your future as a trade qualified engineer. Technical Services design and manufacture a wide range of prototype research and scientific equipment for both students and staff. We have a well equipped modern workshop and a working environment which supports career development. The successful applicant will work as part of a highly skilled team and will receive training in all aspects of the trade.

This is a full time, 37.5 hours per week, on a permanent basis. The salary range for this role is $49,300 - $62,000 per annum depending on experience and qualifications.

**Qualifications**:
**He kōrero mōu | About you**

Essential:

- High school qualification or relevant experience.
- Basic engineering machine tool knowledge and experience.
- Fabrication (welding) skills and knowledge.
- Computer Aided Design (CAD) experience.
- High level of practical skills to operate machine tools and computer controlled machinery.
- Programme set and operate complex multi axis CNC machine centres, lathes and router.
- Conversant with multiple complex software packages used to operate CNC machines.
- Advanced cutting tool knowledge and understanding.
- Complex fabrication using Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG), Metal Inert Gas (MIG), ARC (Stick) and gas welding processes.
- Produce machine code using Computer Aided Machining (CAM) software for manufactured components.
- Operation of precision grinding machinery.
- Operation of computer controlled laser cutter and engraver.
- Operation of high precision 3D printing machinery.

Preferred:

- Trade qualification or relevant experience.
- Overhead Gantry Crane Operators Certificate.
- Forklift License with F endorsement.
- 2 years minimum work experience in a relevant discipline or experience gained while completing tertiary study.
