We have an important role in supporting the Crown in its relationships with Māori under Te Tiriti o Waitangi | The Treaty of Waitangi. The government is committed to improving services and outcomes for Māori and strengthening the Crown's relationships with Māori.
We are responsible for designing community-based systems of care, agreeing health and wellbeing plans, executing those plans, and monitoring outcomes which then feed into the design process. We work in partnership with our Te Whatu Ora and Te Aka Whai Ora colleagues to shape system-wide public health services across the motu.
The Strategic Engagement Lead is a senior strategic internal and external engagement role who works alongside the Regional Integration Team to develop, lead, and implement the team's strategic engagement approach. The Regional Integration Team is responsible for ensuring consistency and alignment of service planning and service delivery within regions, including improving the connections between local, regional and national arrangements that together determine the overall effectiveness of Te Whatu Ora and Te Aka Whai Ora. We are a dynamic and flexible team that prioritises meaningful and genuine engagement across the Northern region.

Our name, Te Whatu Ora, means ‘the weaving of wellness'. Whatu is the combining of people, resources, organisations, thoughts and actions for the betterment and wellbeing of all. Whatu is also a direct reference to the pupil of the eye, and the vision required of the new entity and system.
