The Senior Payroll Specialist is part of the Finance Team which undertakes the finance function for all of Xero’s worldwide operations.
The Pay Team, within the wider Finance Team, is a global shared service. You will be part of the team responsible for the efficient and accurate processing of end-to-end payroll for Xero employees.
The payroll system currently used is Netsuite Infinet Cloud, which has data integrations to Netsuite ERP and Workday HRMIS. We also use Slack for communication and Zendesk for customer service. Xero also uses third party payroll providers for certain smaller payrolls in New Markets.
**What you'll do...**:
- ** 1. Payroll**
- You’ll be responsible for the effective and accurate processing of end-to-end payrolls and associated processes, including:
- End to end monthly payroll processing for all staff Administering payroll services in accordance with organisational policies and procedures and in line with the legislative, departmental and auditing requirements.
- Identifying and resolving day to day payroll issues, escalating any significant risks and issues in a timely manner.
- Assisting with the monthly balancing and reconciliation of the payroll control accounts, including accurate and timely payment of all payroll liabilities, in line with relevant legislation.
- Administering superannuation including monitoring superannuation caps and maintaining salary sacrifice arrangements.
- Administering ACC and Worker’s Compensation claims.
- Preparing and processing of Employment Termination Payments.
- Producing year-end reporting for employees and Xero, as required,
- Working with the Payroll Team Lead/Manager in reviewing payroll submissions including company specific payroll returns, tax returns, online filings with tax authorities, superannuation and worker’s compensation etc, ensuring all requirements are met within required timeframes.
- Maintaining accurate records and follow procedures with respect to the proper filing of hard and soft copy information.
- Working with People Experience (PX) to maintain the integrity of employee data in Workday.
- Responding to staff queries and promoting a strong customer focus with ongoing emphasis on quality of service delivery

2. Other Processes**:
- Preparing all Payroll submissions including company specific payroll returns, tax returns, online filings with tax authorities, superannuation and worker’s compensation etc, ensuring all requirements are met within required timeframes.
- Supporting the Payroll Team Lead/Manager in administering Worker’s Compensation policy renewals.
- Supporting the Payroll Team Lead/Manager in identifying opportunities for continuous improvement in processes, and recommend solutions to improve the value delivered to customers and stakeholders.
- Supporting the project work for a new payroll solution, testing, process mapping and other payroll tasks related to the project.
- Ad-hoc project work as required
**What you'll bring with you...**:
- Strong knowledge and 5 + years payroll processing experience gained through previous NZ payroll for a medium to large company.
- Payroll experience in global payroll would be an advantage.
- Experience with Netsuite or similar cloud based system would be an advantage.
- Understanding of General Ledger systems including payroll journal.
- Advanced technical knowledge on some areas of payroll, independent and self reliant to come up with judgements and recommendations
- Ability to research complex matters and translate legislation into practice
