**Job Description**:
**Kōrero mō te tūranga | About the role**

We’re on the hunt for an Energy Analyst within our generation and trading business. You’ll be part of the high-performing, fast-paced trading group that Contact depends on to maximise the value of the business by buying and selling energy in NZ’s energy markets.

You will play a key role in developing Contact’s commercial operations strategy in the here and now, and in the future. Your focus will be on using and improving models and data to tell a story, advise strategies and communicate them to our management teams.

This role reports into our Spot Market Manager. It sits within our Spot Markets team but will also support the wider trading group; Forward Markets, Dispatch Trading, Fuels, Transmission and Data Management. It’s the perfect opportunity to work collaboratively and understand the Contact Energy business from the ground up.

There is an on-call component for this role so you'll need to be comfortable being on-call one week in every 4 weeks.

We are open to the level of experience you bring. You may be a couple of years into your career or on the flip side, have loads of experience under your belt and considered yourself a Senior level.

The trading environment is not for the faint hearted. You’ll be someone who thrives in a fast-paced multi-faceted environment, is comfortable dealing with ambiguity and can make trading decisions under pressure.

You’ll be dealing with a lot of people across the business, it’s important you can connect and communicate effectively with them to form successful relationships.

Your curious nature means you can analyse and understand complex information. You can identify problems and trends, and are able to make recommendations on market, portfolio and commodity opportunities and risks.

A life long learner, you like to stay on top of industry and regulatory changes in New Zealand’s energy markets. You like to develop tools, processes and systems that enhance a team to make optimal decisions on a day-to-day basis. Teammates look up to you and rely on your guidance.

You've probably studied finance, economics, mathematics, engineering, the natural sciences or even data science. And, you will have experience within the electricity industry or a related industry.

Your Microsoft Office suite skills are impressive, particularly when it comes to spread sheeting. If you have experience in R. Python or other coding languages, awesome.
