Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the Role
New Zealand Food Safety (NZFS) is a branded business unit within the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI). The work we do as NZFS, and through our leadership of the wider food safety system, strongly contributes to our country's public health, economic, and wellbeing outcomes. Historic and recent food incident responses and new and emerging food safety risks have highlighted the increase of risks and threats to the food safety system which continue to evolve in complexity, incidence, and severity.
This is a unique, exciting, and brand-new opportunity for an experienced Principal Advisor to join the NZFS Compliance & Response Directorate. Working with a group of experienced specialists - this team you will support is responsible for ensuring NZFS is able to prepare for, respond to and recover from food safety incidents and responses - which is no mean feat All whilst ensuring optimal compliance across New Zealand Food Safety systems in collaboration with partners and stakeholders.
You will be the key cog in the Directorate machine, ensuring cohesion and alignment across the different teams, the Food Safety business-units, wider MPI, and our array of partners and external stakeholders - a true master of connection. A reliable deputy to the Director, a mentor to the other Principals, a steward of great culture to the wider team, and a trusted adviser to our partners - you will wear many hats in helping us achieve greatness. But do not fear - our team will be right alongside supporting throughout.
This role also requires a flare for strategy, someone who can see the bigger picture, can understand the interdependencies at play, the political environment, the evolving risk landscape - and support the Director with building a pragmatic roadmap to bring the team to its desired state and realise benefits.
Whether its engaging with industry partners on our strategic intent, briefing the Minister for Food Safety on an emerging issue, developing policy with other agencies to ensure it meets our needs, or even donning a pair of boots to join a response on the ground - we guarantee this role will keep you on your toes. In return you'll be part of an amazingly passionate and engaged Directorate, supportive of personal development, exploring innovation, having a good laugh, and most importantly - encouraging to be your best self at work, and at home.
