Be part of a high profile team improving the New Zealand tenancy system to ensure healthier, safer homes for all those renting in New Zealand.

As a Senior Investigator you will play a key role in ensuring that New Zealand residential landlords have both the confidence and information to ensure compliance with the Residential Tenancy Act (RTA). You will not only investigate landlords, but partner with other regulators, government agencies and local authorities to lift the levels of compliance in the residential tenancy sector.

While we will strive to resolve tenancy disputes early through our dispute resolution process or self-resolution there will be times where a greater level of investigation is required, in particular where tenants are vulnerable and/or the nature of offending and breaches are serious.

In this role you will be responsible for the more complex, systemic and serious breaches where there is significant risk to tenant wellbeing, health and safety. These investigations require a methodical, inquisitive and analytical approach to gathering evidence. This will often mean leading or coordinating in multi-agency operations targeting serious breaches or offending. The outcome of these investigations will draw media and public interest so experience producing high quality reports and evidence suitable to the level of tribunal or court presentation is preferred.

You will also be part of a team responsible for ensuring our compliance and investigative practice is of a consistently high quality. You will achieve this through influence and being a leading person in the team’s quality assurance processes. You will also be a ‘go to’ mentor and coach for other Investigators and Compliance Officers within the team.

- Thorough understanding and experience using investigative techniques and methods
- Proven ability to interview, produce reports, liaise with enforcement agencies and act as witness in Court
- Excellent understanding of legislative framework surrounding investigations; e.g. Criminal Procedures Act, rules of evidence, Bill of Rights
- An understanding of practice leadership and quality assurance
- Proven success managing large stakeholder groups and working on multi-agency operations
- Strong relationship builder, confident communicator with an open and approachable coaching style.
