**Tēnei tūranga - About the Role**:
Occupational Regulation is a cross-sector team responsible for several different occupational licensing and registration schemes, which currently includes Immigration Advisers, Motor Vehicle Traders, Electrical Workers, Licensed Building Practitioners, Auctioneers and Pool Inspectors.

Over time other licensing/registration schemes might come into or out of Occupational Regulation.

**About the role**:
As a Principal Investigator, you have the opportunity to bring your investigative expertise and experience to a range of occupational regulation schemes and to work with others in the team to establish and promote good practice.

In this role, you will provide specialist insight through leading complex investigations relating to contravention of the legislation that Occupation Regulation supports. You will maintain oversight of team’s capability through training, coaching and mentoring and provide expertise in relation to complaints and investigations with commitment to continuous improvement and quality management.

As a Principal Investigator, you will support the manager with work programme planning, development and delivery of small projects and pieces of work and workflow management. Providing leadership, direction and guidance to the investigation team and bringing people together to achieve a shared goal will play an important part in the role.

This role offers a great opportunity to bring your regulatory experience and utilise your thought leadership and proactive thinking to work with senior management, disciplinary Boards & Tribunals. Your previous experience will help build and maintain trust and key relationships; foster a positive working relationship and team culture; and be able to have the courage to make difficult decisions and conversations, when required.

**Skills and Experience Required**
- Significant experience working in an environment of regulatory compliance, preferably in an occupational regulation context
- Experience in leading and monitoring complex and diverse investigative activity using best practice and regulatory techniques, cross agency collaboration and an understanding of disciplinary hearings and court processes
- Analysing and presenting information in verbal and written form to a range of audiences
- The ability to understand an interpret relevant legislation, in particular to the responsibilities of Occupation Regulation
- Experience and a passion for coaching and mentoring others and driving continuous improvement
- Highly effective communicator and be confident in building relationships and partnerships with staff as well as internal and external stakeholders
- Working on multiple initiatives and projects simultaneously and willing to share knowledge and expertise with others
- Political awareness and diplomacy with the ability to influence and persuade senior stakeholders
- Must have the legal right to live and work in New Zealand
- Knowledge and awareness or willingness to learn about Te Tiriti and Te Reo.
