The Office for Māori Crown Relations - Te Arawhiti
Our name, Te Arawhiti, means ‘the bridge'. This name symbolises the bridge between Māori and the Crown, the past, the present and the future, and the journey from grievance to true Treaty partnership.
Our vision is to realise the promise of te Tiriti o Waitangi/the Treaty of Waitangi for all New Zealanders.
We are a small, but dynamic and impactful organisation, working to support iwi to reach their Treaty settlements, build public sector capability, safeguard the durability of Treaty settlements and work with other agencies to deliver for Māori.
Mō te tīma/About our Partnerships Wāhanga Teams
The Partnerships Wāhanga is made up of two kāhui - Te Kāhui Hīkina and Te Kāhui Whakamana. Both Kāhui support the work of the Māori Crown Relations portfolio and growing the relationship between Treaty partners. Our Wāhanga has a reputation for tight knit teams, delivering quality work, and for having great heart.
Te Kāhui Whakamana is responsible for enforcing requirements on the Crown to meet its Treaty settlement commitments. We act to ensure the durability of historical Treaty of Waitangi settlements, and build relationships across Aotearoa with iwi entities responsible for Treaty settlements. We work with these entities and relevant Crown agencies to resolve post-settlement issues that arise. Our priority is to implement systems to ensure the Crown honours settlement commitments and we are looking for help with this work.
